The Ugliest Town in the World

Oppdatert: 5. juli 2020

The heading above is the work title of my new novel, which is scheduled to be published this summer. It’s a love story, a story about a woman and two men. The woman and her husband have lived for many years together, and they seem to have arrived at a point in their relationship where many things go slower, stop, or simply fail.

She has met a different man, one with whom she sees a potential for future happiness. But there are obstacles, some external in the social environment and the physical surroundings, and others which seem to lie in the characters.

Conformity, fear, envy, suspiciousness, pride, and lack of self-confidence in the characters in the book are some of the obstacles that threaten to destroy the liberation project the protagonist has embarked on, while faith in liberation og personal growth, creativity, audacity, and boldness are values that help the protagonist in her project.

The story takes place in a small industrial town located at the end of a long, narrow fjord in Western Norway, a place described by Lonely Planet as The Ugliest Town in the World.
